His career began at MŠK Žilina , where he played between 1996 and 2003, winning the Slovak championship twice (2002 and 2003) and being the league's top scorer in both years ( 2001/02 with 21 goals and 20 in 2002/03 with 20 goals) . In 2000, he participated in the Slovak Olympic team at the Sydney Olympic Games.
In 2004, he moved to Germany to join 1. FC Nürnberg , where he quickly earned the hearts of the fans through his exceptional performances. He became the top scorer of the 2004/05 Bundesliga season (34 games / 24 goals), thus achieving a historic treble: top scorer in Slovakia, the 2. Bundesliga, and the 1. Bundesliga.
