Leonardo Bittencourt

Leonardo Jesus Loureiro Bittencourt, born on December 19, 1993 in Leipzig, is a German-Brazilian footballer who primarily plays as an attacking midfielder. He is the son of former Brazilian professional footballer Franklin Bittencourt. Bittencourt began his football career in 1999 in the youth team of Energie Cottbus, where he played until 2011. He made his professional debut for Energie Cottbus on April 16, 2011, in the 2. Bundesliga against MSV Duisburg.

In the summer of 2012, he moved to Borussia Dortmund under Jürgen Klopp and reached the UEFA Champions League final in London. To gain more playing time, he joined Hannover 96 in 2013, where he played until 2015. He then played for 1. FC Köln (2015–2018) and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2018–2019). Bittencourt has been under contract with Werder Bremen since September 2019, initially on loan and becoming a permanent player in July 2020.

At the international level, Bittencourt played for various German youth national teams, including the U19 and U21 levels. Despite his Brazilian roots, he chose to play for Germany. In his career to date, Bittencourt has made over 260 Bundesliga appearances, scoring more than 30 goals.
